September full moon: exact date, name, and meaning

This full moon in Pisces softens and blurs: strong intuition, possible fatigue — better to listen than to force, to finish than to start. Like every full moon, it marks the cycle's peak: what was seeded at the new moon reaches visibility — in facts and in feelings alike.

For reference: in 2026 the September full moon falls on September 26, 2026 (Pisces), and in 2027 — on September 16, 2027 (Pisces). Both dates come from the same calculation engine as the rest of the site: the Swiss Ephemeris.

The full moon closest to the fall equinox — the most famous of all. The name comes from a real astronomical quirk: for several evenings running it rises at nearly the same time, just after sunset, giving farmers providential light to finish the harvest late into the night.

The Harvest Moon is the review moon par excellence: the agricultural year settles its accounts, and the symbolism is direct — you harvest what you planted, in exact quantity. Time to count honestly: projects, money, relationships, health. What yielded, what yielded nothing, and what that teaches about the next sowing.

It coincides with the back-to-school reset and its autumn resolutions: tradition advises not to sow before you've harvested — close the year's chapters cleanly before opening new ones.

September's successive bright moonrises light poorly-curtained bedrooms several nights in a row — the full-moon effect lasts longer than usual here. Heavy curtains and steady hours: the fall reset is won in bed first.
